Your Challenge in the function!
Our company has recently been formed as a spin out from Nouryon (a spinout from AkzoNobel in 2019). Nobian has a long-standing commitment to sustainability and has recently committed to a broad and strong (ESG) agenda. Sustainability is the collective responsibility of the Leadership Team, led by the CEO. All members of the Leadership Team will have ownership of ESG initiatives and direction. Progress of the ESG agenda will be regularly discussed and reported in the Corporate Responsibility Committee of the Board and the Board itself.
Within this context, your mission in this role is to help (further) define and drive the delivery of the Nobian ECG strategy in line with company ambitions. This includes responsibility for the development and management of the ESG agenda, communicating and aligning with all the functions. You also collaborate and network with external parties and suppliers. On an ongoing basis you will coordinate the monitoring and reporting of our progress, and drive continuous improvements based on industry best practices and benchmarks. An important element in this role is to represent Nobian in external sustainability forums as well as to provide input into our sustainability communications. You are also able to communicate with executive and supervisory board level. You will report to the Director RD & Technology and Sustainability and are leading a large cross functional ESG team.

 

The role and its responsibilities
You ensure that ESG strategy and plan is fully embedded in business processes of all the functions. You ensure that Nobian meets agreed ESG targets (e.g. reduction of CO2 footprint, %renewable energy, etc.) and support the commercial team with customer questions and interaction. You perform strategic assessments of the environmental impact of the Nobian business and its value chains now and in the future for all the business lines. You co-operate with the head of communications and public affairs on questions from authorities and press and the yearly report applying sustainability standards such as SASB or GRI.

Have you got what it takes?
To apply for this position, you must possess all the following attributes:

  • Ideally you have a Master degree in science and technology, preferably in chemistry or chemical engineering;
  • Experience with setting up sustainability/ESG programs, including external auditing (e.g, Ecovadis, CDP, Together for Sustainability, etc.);
  • Experience in the Chemical industry across more than one functional area or exposure, in association with external parties;
  • You have run major cross functional projects with environmental impact; experience with performing LCA’s;
  • Powerful hands on change manager who can develop strategy, define actions and drive implementation. Action oriented. owning specific actions him/her self;
  • Experience and affinity with collaboration management (Governments, NGO’s, startups, peer companies);
  • Excellent internal and external communication skills, including fluent written and spoken English. Speaking Dutch and/or German is a plus.
