Digital Manufacturing Engineer / MES Developer

Your challenge as Digital Manufacturing Engineer / MES Developer

Through your technical expertise, you will build, develop, maintain, and deliver digital solutions for the company. They mainly relate to Nobian’s Manufacturing Execution System (MES) and Historian system. These systems are storing, calculating, and providing production data from our production plants. Additionally, you will support developments with the tool “Whiteboard by Cyzag”. This tool supports our lean six sigma continuous improvement processes and standard processes (OEE, AUM, PEM) on sites by visualizing and providing real-time plant data. Whiteboard is also used during stand-up meetings of our production shifts and for planning purposes.

As a Digital Manufacturing Engineer / MES Developer you will be creating value by digitalizing working processes, introducing new tools, improving processes, and capability building within the company.

You will become part of the central agile team, surrounded by motivated colleagues operating in an international setting with focus on digitalization, and supporting our manufacturing plants in the Netherlands, Germany, and Denmark. This central team also drives technology communities and supports citizen developers of our central functions and manufacturing sites. Your key responsibilities are:

  • Design, develop, maintain, and deliver digital solutions in MES, Historian, and Whiteboard.
  • Work with colleagues at production sites to better understand their requirements, gain input and feedback.
  • Take ownership of the tasks in the ongoing sprint and deliver the expected developments.
  • Review the improvement backlog with the team, evaluate requirements and think about viable solutions.
  • Estimate the effort necessary to deliver a solution and help plan the next sprint.
  • Escalate via the agile team when you identify a roadblock during the sprint.
  • Host the whiteboard community.
  • Continuous improvement on existing solutions based on user feedback.
  • Help answer questions from sites and ensure change management through coaching and training of the local users (citizen developers).
  • Help create user guides and deliver training.

Have you got what it takes?

To successfully execute the role, you have strong analytical skills and affinity for digital tools and development. You are able and eager to learn quickly about new systems and technologies, you are detail-oriented, and a fast learner. Further to this you recognize yourself in the following points:

  • A bachelor’s degree with 4+ years' experience or a master’s degree with 2+ years’ in (chemical) engineering, data analytics, or similar.
  • Knowledge of GE Proficy Historian and Plant Applications or similar applications.
  • Work experience on a production site (e.g., MES developer or process engineer or similar).
  • Experience with SQL and stored procedures are a plus.
  • Ability to help users in defining requirements and explain the possibilities of recent technologies.
  • Experience or knowledge of agile working is preferred.
  • Willingness to travel to the factories every now and then.
  • Fluency in English both spoken and written needed, Dutch, or German is a plus.
