Your challenge as the Operations Manager
The Operations Manager is overall responsible for the day-to-day operations of the plant. The Operations manager acts as the asset owner on behalf of the site director. In this respect, he or she is responsible for all aspects of safety, production, maintenance, and technology of the day-to-day operation. Included in the scope of the operations manager are:

  • One of the world's largest Salt production plants.
  • A combined heat and power plant for the production of steam and electricity.
  • All utility installations like cooling water and compressed air.
  • High voltage installations, distribution, and connection to the public grid.

As the Operations Manager, you make sure that you produce Salt in a safe way, which is on specification and available for our customers on time. Availability of your products and a reliable supply are key; Salt is at the start of many industrial processes. At the same time, you ensure that you capitalize on the (commercial) opportunities given by the volatility in the energy markets. Therefore, you maintain good operational contacts with your customers, and you will frequently align with the commercial department. For the longer term, you determine which investments are needed to maintain availability and you deliver a valuable contribution to the energy transition strategy of Nobian.

You will report to the Site Director and be part of the Site Leadership Team of Hengelo. You will lead the Operations team (approx. 80 direct & indirect reports) and develop the team by coaching to ensure to have short and long-term correct organization;

Your main responsibilities are:

  • Being the HSE leader and accountable for all HSE aspects within the plants 
  • Building and maintaining a network within the Site, Integrated Supply Chain, Business units, and function, including customers
  • Being an asset owner that coordinates and synchronizes all day-to-day, short cycle, production, maintenance, and technology activities 
  • Responsible for asset integrity of the plants, and for production according to agreed production plans
  • Improving performance by developing yearly operational improvement plans and setting goals for the operational performance of the organization & assets through SMART KPIs. 
  • Identifying opportunities to enhance the overall work processes and improve cost-effectiveness and efficiency in OPEX and VMC
  • Leading the development of the department's annual budgeting process and continuously monitoring performance versus budget 
  • Operate within the agreed plant budgets, meaning, meeting the Operational Expenditure (OPEX) targets;
  • Drive continuous improvement and the use of standardized work processes;

Have you got what it takes?
As the Operations Manager, you have functional experience in Production, Maintenance, Technology, Control, HR, HSE, and Continuous Improvement. You have extensive experience in leading a team and with change management. To successfully execute the role, you also bring along:

  • MSc level, proven management & leadership education
  • A minimum of 10 years of work experience within a similar position and environment
  • Continuous improvement mindset with project experience
  • Fluency in English and Dutch both verbal and written.
