CO₂ emissions to zero, 100% renewables by 2040
Energy is more than an input to our operations. It is a critical resource that we source,
use, generate, and store to enable more efficient, reliable and low‑carbon operations.
Our goal is to become net-zero with 100% use of renewable electricity by 2040.
Because our production processes are energy‑intensive by nature, renewable energy is the key driver for reducing CO₂ emissions. To reduce greenhouse gas emissions, we focus on increasing the share of renewable energy and continuously improving energy efficiency.
Our salt production sites run their own energy assets, including combined heat and power plants, a biomass boiler, an e‑boiler and MVR heat pumps.
As a utility provider in several chemical clusters, we supply steam and electricity to co‑located customers, and (re-)sell gas, electricity and steam.
At our sites, we produce and use green hydrogen and supply it to customers as part of our low-carbon product portfolio.
Alongside on‑site generation, we increasingly source renewable steam and electricity from waste incineration, wind and solar. Through our E-flex activities, we adjust our electricity usage and production based on real-time grid supply and demand to support grid stability – using less power when wind or solar is scarce and more when renewable energy is abundant.
Energy storage is essential to balance a power system with more renewable energy such as wind, solar and green hydrogen. Storage captures surplus renewable energy and makes it available when supply is low, supporting grid stability. Nobian contributes in two ways:
With our leading electrochemical expertise, our increased energy efficiency and our growing share of renewable energy, we drive sustainability, right from the start of the chemical value chain. We support the transition toward green chemistry and low-carbon products, extending sustainability impact beyond our own operations.
