Chlorine

An important chemical in day-to-day life

We are a leading European producer of chlorine with two production sites in the Netherlands and three in Germany.

Chlorine is an important chemical in everyday life and a major building block for the chemical and pharmaceutical industries. It is produced through the electrolysis of salt brine, together with caustic lye and hydrogen. Some 55% of European chemical production relies on this process and many chemicals, plastics and medicines depend on chlorine during the manufacturing process.

We are an active member of Euro Chlor, the European organization for chlorine producers, which develops and promotes the highest safety, health and environmental standards and practices for the manufacturing, handling and use of chlorine.
