Chloromethanes are used as intermediates in the manufacture of pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, refrigerants, silicone polymers and fluoropolymers. They are important raw materials for the construction and automotive industries, water treatment, cookware and electronics.
We supply high quality chloromethane products to industries around the world and work closely with our customers to develop and deliver a wide range of innovative technologies and sustainable solutions. As well as contributing to safe and efficient production processes, we also help our customers to become more competitive while using fewer resources. We are an active member of the European Chlorinated Solvents Association (ECSA), which represents the European chlorinated solvents manufacturers. ECSA operates under the umbrella of the Halogen Sector Group of Cefic, the European Chemical Industry Council.
An important raw material for the chemical, pharmaceutical and water treatment industry
Technically produced by the reaction of methanol with hydrogen chloride (HCl), methyl chloride, is mainly used as a raw material in the production of silicones and methyl celluloses and quaternary ammonium compounds used in water treatment flocculants. It is also used in surfactants, agrochemicals, pharmaceuticals and dyes. A small amount is used as a low-temperature solvent in the production of butyl rubber.
Used in many applications due to its unique properties
Methylene chloride is used as a solvent in the synthesis of chemicals and pharmaceuticals, including the extraction of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), the production of polycarbonates and cellulose triacetate (for films and fibers), metal degreasing (surface treatment) and paint removal, as an extraction solvent in the food industry, i.e. the removal of caffeine from unroasted coffee beans and tea, in the synthesis and extraction of vitamins, and as a laboratory solvent. We supply various forms of methylene chloride that meet a range of purity specifications.
Used as a feedstock for the production of HCFC 22
Chloroform, a colorless, neutral liquid, is restricted by European regulations to use as an intermediate (raw material in chemical synthesis), a special solvent in industrial processes or in laboratories only. Chloroform is mainly used as a raw material for the production of HCFC 22 (R 22), which is used as a raw material for refrigerants (HFOs) and for fluoropolymers (PTFE and derivatives). It is also used as a feedstock for methyl- and ethyl orthoformate, as a solvent in the industrial synthesis of pharmaceuticals and chemicals, for extraction purposes, and as a laboratory solvent. We offer several stabilizations of chloroform.
Used as a building block for HFOs and bulletproof fibers
Due to its ozone depleting properties in the stratosphere, European and international regulations restrict the use of carbon tetrachloride as a raw material in chemical synthesis or as a special solvent in industry or in laboratories only. Carbon tetrachloride is only used as a raw material for chemical synthesis for fibers, refrigerants, agrochemicals and pharmaceuticals, and as a solvent for specific industrial chemical synthesis and extraction purposes and for laboratory use.
