Grow Greener Together

As a European leader in salt, essential chemicals, and energy, we make no secret of our sustainability ambition, which is to become one of the most sustainable chemical companies in Europe.

We want to help our customers reduce their carbon footprint with our green products, accelerate growth in new markets that will have a positive impact on our world, and engage meaningfully with our people, stakeholders and communities.

We have set ourselves aspirational climate targets which are ahead of the Paris Agreement goals – such as becoming carbon neutral by 2040, with 100% renewable energy.

We will achieve this through our comprehensive sustainability program: Grow Greener Together. Through this program we focus on the areas were we can have the biggest impact, centered around three pillars:

About EcoVadis and its rating

As part of our commitment to society, our people and the environment, Nobian completes thorough assessments of its business sustainability practices every year through EcoVadis, the global standard for business sustainability ratings. The EcoVadis assessment includes 21 sustainability criteria across four core themes: Environment, Labor & Human Rights, Ethics and Sustainable Procurement. In our first rating, which was completed July 2022, we earned a platinum medal and scored 75 points out of 100, which places Nobian in the top 1% globally. Learn more at https://ecovadis.com

Essential chemicals

By leveraging our more than 100 years of experience we provide essential chemicals that society cannot do without, and which are needed for the energy transition, such as insulation, different type of batteries, light weighting, and base materials to produce windmills and low carbon concrete.

We are partnering with wind farm developers, we are offering flexible capacity to help stabilize the energy grid, and we are exploring how we can store green energy in our salt caverns. We’re also actively working to produce greener chemicals, including hydrogen, and are committed to stimulating and growing a circular economy.

We will work towards greater sustainability the Nobian way, rooted in a heritage that goes back more than a century, and with a focus on concrete progress. We will focus on sustainable salt mining and chemical safety, and honering our promises. You can read more about our approach to sustainability and how we’re working to achieve our goals in our sustainability report.

To ensure evidence-based reporting and to push decarbonization transparently through our operations and value chain, Nobian is committing to Science-Based Targets and will be joining the Carbon-Disclosure Project (CDP) later this year. Nobian is also participating in the EcoVadis rating process to assess its sustainability performance, and we have identified climate-related risks and opportunities based on the Climate-related Financial Disclosure (TCFD) framework. We have aligned our pillars with the UN Sustainable Development Goals based on where we can make the biggest impact. The selected goals where we can make the biggest impact are:

We strive to be one of the most sustainable chemicals companies in Europe, but this is not something we can do alone. That’s why we want to “Grow Greener Together” with our customers, partners and society.

This is our pledge to a more sustainable future.
