Advancing zero emission chemical logistics with hydrogen transport

Transporting essential chemicals requires strict ADR compliance, which has long limited the adoption of sustainable transport technologies. For many ADR classified products, including caustic soda and hydrochloric acid, diesel trucks remained the only viable option. As the chemical industry accelerates its shift toward low-carbon operations, Nobian needed a safe, scalable solution that could meet stringent safety requirements while reducing transportrelated emissions.

ADR-certified hydrogen-powered truck

In partnership with VERVAEKE, Nobian launched Europe’s first ADR certified hydrogen- powered truck. The three-year pilot, initiated in February 2026, demonstrates that hydrogen technology can safely and efficiently transport large-volume essential chemicals.

The hydrogen truck is specifically designed to meet the stringent demands of transporting hazardous materials, fully complying with European ADR regulations. Hydrogen technology offers a long driving range, fast refuelling and lower vehicle weight compared to battery-electric alternatives, making it well suited for large-volume chemical transport. By integrating this capability into daily operations, Nobian enables safe, efficient and low-emission transport of essential chemicals such as caustic soda and hydrochloric acid.

The hydrogen truck will replace a diesel vehicle and drive around 100,000 kilometres annually, reducing an estimated 88.5 tons of CO₂ per 100,000 km. Together with earlier green hydrogen initiatives such as the Ms. Antonie inland vessel, the pilot marks a significant step in scaling hydrogen powered logistics and advancing Nobian’s efforts to build a future proof, low emission transport chain.
