At Nobian, we continuously look for smarter ways to use resources more efficiently and support our customers in achieving their sustainability ambitions. A clear example of this approach is our collaboration with Teijin Aramid at Chemie Park Delfzijl. By supplying high-quality industrial water derived from our salt production condensate, we have enabled Teijin Aramid to cut its drinking water consumption by 80% - more than 300,000 m³ per year - while also lowering operational costs and reducing total water use by 10%.

Nobian supplies Teijin Aramid with a clean and reliable industrial water stream derived from our salt production process. This condensate from salt evaporation is naturally low in minerals, making it ideal as supplementary cooling water. Teijin Aramid implemented a fully circular water solution, including a new industrial water pipeline, upgrades to the existing cooling water infrastructure, and the installation of an automated water quality control unit to ensure consistent and stable system performance.

This project demonstrates how Nobian’s circular water infrastructure can help partners replace drinking water with a reliable industrial water stream, directly contributing to regional water security and supporting the ambition of Waterbedrijf Groningen to reduce industrial drinking water demand in the province. It also reflects our Grow Greener Together sustainability program under which we also work to reduce freshwater consumption and the environmental footprint of our products by, among other, recycling residual water streams.

With the use of industrial water at Chemie Park Delfzijl we are transforming rest streams into valuable resources, strengthening the regional water balance, and enabling more sustainable operations. With still many hundreds of thousands cubic meters of industrial water available annually, we are uniquely positioned to support companies in reducing their dependence on drinking water for industrial processes. Next to Teijin Aramid and Lubrizol, also Delamine is an additional partner in reaffirming Nobian’s role as a driving force in making industrial water use more sustainable.
