Nobian Sustainability Report 2025: Strong progress in a challenging year

6 May 2026

We are proud to present Nobian’s Sustainability Report 2025, marking our fifth annual sustainability report. The report highlights the solid progress we made across climate, circularity and care in a challenging year for European industry and reaffirms our commitment to green, responsible chemical production.

Despite market pressure and geopolitical uncertainty, Nobian continued to make tangible progress on what matters most: reducing our environmental footprint, scaling greener solutions and strengthening our license to operate.

Key highlights from 2025
  • CO₂ emissions reduction: Nobian exceeded its 2025 climate targets, reducing Scope 1 and 2 CO₂ emissions by 50% compared to 2020 and 71% compared to 1990, while reaching a 53% share of renewable energy in its operations. The company remains on track to achieve net‑zero Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2040.
  • RFNBO certification: A key milestone in 2025 was Nobian becoming Europe’s first large‑scale green hydrogen producer (>100 MW) certified under the ISCC EU scheme for Renewable Fuels of Non‑Biological Origin (RFNBO). This certification provides customers with verified, low‑carbon hydrogen and supports the development of a reliable European hydrogen market.
  • EcoVadis Platinum rating: For the fourth consecutive year, Nobian achieved an EcoVadis Platinum rating, placing the company among the top sustainability performers worldwide.
  • Circular economy and battery chemicals: The report highlights further progress in the circular economy. In 2025, Nobian patented two innovative production processes for battery chemicals, contributing to European electrification and energy‑storage value chains. The share of certified, low‑carbon products increased to 14% of total product revenue.
  • Water management: Nobian completed its first large‑scale drinking‑water reduction project in Delfzijl, saving approximately 300,000 cubic meters of drinking water per year as part of its broader water management program.
  • Organization‑wide engagement: Beyond these highlights, the report reflects many additional improvements and initiatives across sites and functions, from operational improvements like energy efficiency and circular innovations to people‑ and community‑focused programs, reflecting strong organization‑wide engagement in sustainability.
Looking ahead

Building on this progress, Nobian will continue to focus in 2026 on further emission reductions, energy efficiency and flexibility scaling low‑carbon and circular solutions, continuous improvement in safety performance and long‑term resilience in a rapidly changing energy and industrial landscape.
